Privacy Policy

This page basically exists because the current automated method of maintaining GDPR compliance on Blogger doesn't seem to be sufficient anymore and Google Adsense in particular requires me to write out a Privacy Policy. I tried to cut out as much legalese out of this Privacy Policy as possible to make it less painful to read through.

 

Put simply, some information will be collected about you, the reader. I try to keep it as close to the bare minimum as possible. The information consists of the following:

1. Your IP address and information about your device such as its Operating System, type of device, etc. This information is automatically disclosed when accessing any website on the Internet on a typical web browser and anyone running those websites can see it.
1. Since Google LLC, which I will shorten to "Google" from this point on, owns the Blogger service and therefore hosts this blog, this information is collected by them and I cannot access it, so send them a GDPR request if you want that information scrubbed.
2. Google, along with various third-party vendors, use cookies to collect information about websites you visit, including this one, to serve personalized ads.
3. Basic statistical data regarding pages viewed, because that's what Blogger's analytics collect. It just shows me how many times people have viewed a page or visited the site. This information is not personalized in any way whatsoever.
4. Your Blogger profile if you have one when you post a comment on any page here. However, you can also post anonymously.

Before consenting for this site to use your personal data, please also consider the following:

1. Google and their parent company, Alphabet Inc are gathering information about you that is highlighted in their own privacy policy. Once again, in this case it's used primarily to serve personalized ads.
2. Ads served by Google Adsense can be depersonalized through this Ad Settings page.
3. Third parties approved by Google may also serve adverts through Adsense. You can opt out of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting their sites, which are listed here and here. You can also use this site to opt out of cookies for personalized advertising for a number of third-party entities.

If you find any of the above disagreeable, you can and should refuse to consent to having your personal data being collected and used. The blog should still be accessible, but companies like Google shouldn't be able to use your data related to your browsing of this site.
