(April Fools') League of Legends: Fighters Are Going Manaless!

Before I became the support main that I usually adhere to nowadays, I used to play a lot of solo lane to acquire ELO. One thing that was largely consistent was that my champion pool largely consisted of fighter champions such as Gangplank, Singed, Nasus, Master Yi, and so on. As a result of this potential obsession with fighter champions, I have extensively followed anything I could find on fighters, whether it's threads on the state of top lane (which is a home for many fighters), what Morello has to say about nerfing Irelia, and so on. With that said, it makes me happy to see that Fighters will be going manaless within a short time.

There's been a lot of subtle hints showing the move towards Fighters going manaless. For instance, Will of the Ancients is getting changed to no longer have mana regeneration. This affects certain champions in top lane not to mention most of the manaless champions who would love to buy Will of the Ancients to begin with. This is further reinforced by Rumble earning a legendary skin in the future. Another subtle hint was made by Morello's constant nerfing of Irelia and how he mentioned the design of fighters may be taking a different direction. The author of this article discussing the topic postulated that fighters may become manaless.

Of course all the evidence I'm showing isn't exactly concrete and is essentially the makings of a conspiracy theory. However, I also have a quote from a source that chooses to remain anonymous from within Riot that says that fighters going manaless is very close to becoming a reality. The source provided examples of some of the changes to fighters that would be on the horizon. For instance:
  • Darius
    • Mana cost on all abilities have been removed. Darius no longer has Mana or gains Mana per level.
    • Now uses a resource called Gore. Dealing damage with Hemorrhage grants 5 Gore, granting double if a champion suffers damage from Hemorrhage (capped at 100).
    • Gore empowers Darius's basic abilities, such as by increasing the range of Decimate and Apprehend by 50 and 100 respectively and increasing the duration of the slowing on Crippling Strike by 25% more (in a multiplicative manner). Each empowerment costs 50 Gore.
    • Decimate's cooldown has been increased by 1 second at all ranks to compensate for the removal of mana as a resource.
    • Killing a champion with Noxian Guillotine also restores 25 + 5 Gore per Hemorrhage stack.
  • Fiora
    • Mana cost on all abilities have been removed.
    • Lunge has been reworded to remove the indication that the ability had a resource cost.
    • Fiora's resource bar now shows the current strength of her health regeneration effect from her Duelist passive. Duelist can now be refreshed by attacking creeps regardless of the "stacks" on the effect and each consecutive strike on a target will slightly increase the health regeneration effect.
  • Gangplank
    • Mana cost on all abilities removed. Parrrley no longer refunds mana when it successfully kills the target.
    • Remove Scurvy now heals for slightly less. Cooldown changed to 26/24/22/20/18 (from 22/21/20/19/18).
    • Raise Morale no longer has a cast time.
  • Irelia
    • Mana cost on all abilities removed.
    • Translucent Blade is now Irelia's W ability. When used, Irelia fires a spirit blade, dealing 25/40/55/70/85 (+50% AP)(+60% bonus AD) to all enemies in a line and healing Irelia for 10% of damage dealt to minions and 25% of damage dealt to champions. 12/11.5/11/10.5/10 second cooldown.
    • Storm of Blades is now Irelia's R ability. When activated, a many blades spin around her, causing her to fire a blade every 0.5 seconds at a nearby enemy for 35/70/105 (+50% AP)(+75% bonus AD) Physical damage. During this time any enemies close to Irelia suffer 25/40/55 (+25% Bonus AD) Physical damage every second. Lasts for 3 seconds.
  • Nasus
    • Mana cost on all abilities removed.
    • Siphoning Strike base damage reduced to 25/40/55/70/85 (down from 30/50/70/90/110) to compensate for the removed cost.
    • Spirit Fire range reduced to 600 to reduce ranged damage abuse from a manaless Nasus.
  • Xin Zhao
    • Mana cost on all abilities removed.
    • Three-Talon Strike will now apply the heal from Battle Cry's passive on each strike. Healing effect reduced by 25%.
    • Battle Cry has been reworked, reducing the armor of all enemies within 300 range by 12/14/16/18/20% for 5 seconds when activated. In addition, Battle Cry has a new passive that increases the armor reduction of the Challenge passive by 3/6/9/12/15%.
  • And so much more...
Also, as of the posting of this article, the addition of Ultra Rapid Fire mode to League of Legends has removed resource costs (energy, mana) from abilities, further proving that this theory is reality.
